I’m doing…EGGGGcellent

Hello!

I hope this finds you guys in happy places…Now that spring has sprung everyone seems to be in much better spirits these days. I am seeing more smiles, more people are out and about in the warm sun….Even I piddled around outside some last Sunday.  My skin burned like I was Vampira, but it was great being outdoors.  Today, it is raining, kinda chilly, and it seems that it will hang around for a bit.  But that’s ok because it is also a good day to sit at the drawing table.

Speaking of drawing table, the above is a little sketch that I did, just playing around. It was a strange subject, but it was easier to practice using simple shapes and only a handful colors.  I still can’t decide if I like watercolor or not.  I really want to, but I guess I will just have to wait and see.  I am thinking maybe I should get a professional grade paint before I decide as I seem to have a very severe problem of overworking the paper trying to get the colors vibrant.   I’m not giving up yet 🙂

What professional watercolor brand do you recommend?

The happenings…

As I sit here at the office, I realized that I haven’t posted in a while…So I thought I would drop in and say Hello and let you know what has been going on.

Soooooo, First things First!  “Hello!”  I hope this finds everyone well:)

Things here are going pretty good.  Still love my co workers and my job, My baby girl is finally home and warmer weather is just around the corner, so what’s not to love!

I have been doing a lot of painting…watercolor mainly. But the unfortunate part is that my garbage can is nice and colorful with most of my mistakes,  it’s ok though,  I have been enjoying the process believe it or not!  I am familiar with most,  if not all techniques in most mediums, but they don’t always equal success in execution, lol  let’s just leave it at that 😉

I also have a commission that I completed and awaiting delivery.  That’s about it for now.  I hope you guys have a great week and until next time…

Art Nouveau?

I’m still here alive and kicking!  I’ve just been emptying boxes from “not the move”  that we packed up when we were going to put the house on the market.  As we speak, my living room and kitchen is filled with crap that we will send to DAV (Disabled American Veterans).  Well it’s not really crap, and alot of things were extremely difficult to let go of, but I’ve made a vow not to touch anything and thank goodness it will be gone Saturday.  When we were going through the boxes we found a couple of decorative plates that David wanted to put in the guest bathroom.  I had planned on putting some abstract oil pastel in there, but David was right and the plates look beautiful.  I had to admit defeat.   With a little research I had found out that they were Art Nouveau..then I had to look up Art Nouveau.  Although, I like a narrow margin of the work..I don’t find it all that appealing… Oh, do you want to know what Art Nouveau is? Here’s the link!

With trying to find something to complement the plates, I did manage to get a little painting in and I below are pictures of my project.

These are the plates that will hang in the bathroom

The next pictures are flowers that I painted in art nouveau (ish)  style, that I’m hoping will look work.  I can’t claim the designs, because I found them on the computer, it is supposed to be copyright free for up to 10 designs…We’ll see.  I wish I had the link to share, but I didn’t save the site:(  I did change some of it to adapt to my small 3.5 x 3.5 opening.  I hope you like my frames…I’m so in love with them..

Well, I guess that’s about all I have to share today.  I hope you have a great weekend!

Be Well and Happy!

ROCK ON…

Rocks

Rocks

Colored pencil, watercolor with watercolor pencil, pastel and ink

on Strathmore 140 lb. coldpress watercolor paper

My rock models were variations of grey,  black and brown.  I thought it was really boring so I added different colors.  It looks more like something you would find in a fish bowl.  This took me three days to complete and I can’t decide if I like it or not, but it was  good  playing with all those mediums at one time.

It was brought to my attention that my poor blog has been neglected, and it has.  I had been doing so well with keeping up with my posts up until this month, and I promise I will try to do better, but this is what’s been going on:

1.)  I have three portraits I have been working on.  Pretty easy… One lil white dog, and one portrait drawn twice.  It’s for my cousin, and we are trading services, she is making me two handmade wall hangings and I am drawing her portraits.  I’m sure the portraits are Christmas presents so I can’t show that, but I’m pretty sure I can post the dog  after she gets it.

2.) I was trying to participate in the Drawing from the Masters group.  This month its Van Gogh.  Almost two weeks of work, and it looks h-o-r-r-i-b-l-e!! (so far) I’m not disppointed I knew it would be a big stretch for me  BUT even if the painting tanks, I’ve studied the life of the artist and you’ll will have to suffer through a mini report.

3.) I have been trying to think of a new name for my blog, trying to come up with my own banner and changing the format.  I like the black, but I think it just too hard to read.

4.) I have been working on a way over the top,  Top Secret project that even the hubby knows nothing about it!

Throw in sickness, soccer, and school and that’s about it.  I will try to better, I promise.

Fall is Coming. . .

EDM #34 Draw a fall leaf

Water color and Ink on Strathmore 140lb. cold press

I was in the mood to paint.  So I decided to follow the lead of  the many bloggers and I went a searchin’ for some fall leaves.  I didn’t have much luck finding the perfect fall leaf with the perfect fall colors.  You’d think with nine trees in the background I’d find atleast one nice leaf.  I didn’t.  So these two are the best of the worst.

I am looking forward to fall.  I have no idea why because I don’t like to be cold…no….I hate to be cold.  I guess I am just ready for homemade soup with a side of cheese toast and dressin’ up dog for halloween.

Butterfly

“Butterfly”   Mixed Media  Watercolor and Ink on Bristol Smooth

from photo taken by V. Welsh

This is from a photo taken by my sister-in-law, and I hope she doesn’t mind me drawing or posting this.  I have drawn this before in colored pencil and had to scrap it because I chopped the background.  Thank goodness I saved the drawing.

I wanted to experiment with watercolor and to paint something that I couldn’t mess up.  I think it turned out nice, but it looks more like a tattoo than a drawing.   It would be pretty cool as a tattoo wouldn’t it?  Note to hubby: Don’t worry I’ll save my art for paper and canvas; not my skin.

Anyway, This was really fun and quick, but the drawback to watercolor and ink is that if you mess it up,  it is difficult to impossible to fix.  I wish I could stick with one medium and learn it well. But I really don’t know what my favorite is yet, and possibilities are endless.  It may take me a while.
