What’s in my bag…

I like to read blogs and watch videos about what art supplies that artists like to take with them on the go.  So, I thought I would throw in my two cents and show you what I bring with me on road trips.  Even if I am driving, I still like to bring these items with me because you will never know when the mood will strike to create something.   I will admit that this isn’t too exciting, but for now it is everything that I need or want to bring…minus the snacks of course 🙂

I still have a love/hate relationship with watercolor at the moment but I am hardheaded so of course I have a few supplies to curse at while I’m on a trip.

It seems like a lot of projects to bring a long and I may not touch a bit of it but it is there if the inclination hits me.  Its better to have it and not want it than to want it and not have it, lol

So what do you bring along with you on trips?  What are your must haves?

I didn’t forget…

But I bet you thought I would:)

I really like these two new tangles.  I think they have an elegant feel to them and were alot of fun to draw.  There are probably (by now) thousands of tangle patterns scattered through the wide world web.  So  if I post something that’s already been done,  it is not intentional and please let me know and I will remove the pattern.  This is for fun and for sharing and cutting someone off to the knees defeats the purpose.   Alot of the patterns on this Zentangle you will recognize..actually they are some of my favorites.

This Zentangle was especially fun and although it may be squarish (Is that a word?) It is not just filling in a square or a circle that can be pretty tiresome at times.  Don’t get me wrong, creating a Zentangle is NEVER tiresome, but sometimes looking at it afterwards is… I admire the Zentanglist that can make Zentangles look like something out of a fairyland…Unfortunately,  I am not of those Yet!

Posted below is the Fanz and blowin’ leaf patterns.  The Fanz is pretty easy and I put in variations in my Zentangle.  For the Blowin’ leaf pattern I only put in one leaf so it wouldn’t be confusing.   All you have to do is just overlap the same design in different directions in pencil and just erase what you don’t need and redraw with a micron.  Then shade the leaves that are under the leaves on top.  That’s it.

By gaps I mean the double line please note the Zentangle above

New Tangle Pattern…Brix

After a weekend of cold, rainy, dreary weather it is so good to see the sun out this morning. I hope you are enjoying sunny skies too.  The weekend wasn’t all bad.  My mom came in so that was fun.

Not much going on but I do have a pattern for you.  It’s called Brix.  It’s really easy and not too far off the mark from real bricks that you would see in fine art.  This pattern would be great incorporated with Graffiti style letters and perfect to use if you were drawing a Zentangle for a boy.

Hand lettering…

In my last post I mentioned Joann Fink’s Zenspirations.  I really enjoyed playing around with her techniques and her take on hand lettering.  What you may not know about me, is that a long time ago I used to be a hand lettering artist.  Of course at the time I didn’t know that the “hand lettering artist” label even existed, I just did it.  I would hand letter  invitations, certificates, signs, buildings, banners and even race cars.  I just loved writing fancy and manipulating letters.  But that was so many years ago…and I’m so rusty..Hand lettering is not like riding a bike, if you don’t use it, you lose it.  So, let’s just say I lost it, lol.. but I’ve been practicing and below is some of my efforts:

As you can probably see, my spacing is a little off  but hey, I haven’t done this in like 18 years.  So I’m  not going to beat myself up over it.

After I finished Joann’s hearts and drew the letters I really wanted to do something cool with these.  So, I decided to make these for my daughter and of course a set for myself

These are just transfers from my printer and ironed on reg. white t-shirts.  I think they look pretty cool.  Oooooo, if I had a screen print press I would be dangerous!

I guess I was Zenspired!

Into the Wild Zentangle Series 3

No Wild Series patterns would be complete without this one.

I must confess this one is my favorite and a lot of fun to draw.  And below is my W.I.P.

I’m looking at my variation of the crock-e-dial pattern and it looks like an ear of corn, so may I’ll just make another pattern out of my mistake and call it korn-y 🙂  I really hope you are enjoying these patterns.  If you are incorporating my patterns into your own work I would dearly love to see it.

Into the Wild Tangle Series

I have hundreds of Zentangle patterns that I’ve collected over the last couple of years and I have loved incorporating them into my own Zentangle art.  And although I plan to use them for many years to come I really wanted to come up with my own designs and share them others as a way of giving back to the Zentangle community.

I don’t know if these designs meet the criteria of the Zentangle philosophy, so these designs won’t be submitted, but they are available to anyone who does a search.  These patterns are a little different because these are in a series,  but they still  can be repeated in just a few steps.

In lieu of a completed Zentangle of Into the Wild, I will be drawing a W.I.P. so I won’t give anything away.

This is Gir-af

What the…

This week has been an odd one.  I thought since I had been pressed and a little “stressed” these past couple of months that I would just relax and just do my normal everyday thing.  You know the drill straighten the house, do the laundry and cook the meals no more and no less.  And in my free time I was just going to read and blah blah blah…But what really happened was that I straightened, did the laundry, cooked the meals and paced.  And I paced. And I paced.  I bet I walked 15 miles in my house this week. I thought maybe I just need to sit somewhere and draw a little, that didn’t work.  Then I thought maybe I would try reading again.  After reading the same line 15 times, I decided that reading wasn’t working for me either.  Then I pulled out my excel book (I have been teaching my self to do spreadsheets and workbooks) and I couldn’t manage that either.  I could have been a really good housewife and tackled some cleaning jobs, but come on!  I’m not that hard up!  And here it is Friday, and I could’nt muster up anything.  This Zentangle is even old.  What ever is making my internal batteries low, I’m not liking it a bit!  I would say that I’m just tired and I need more sleep or something, but I’m not tired and I can sleep as long as my body needs to.  I just feel like I want to do something, but just too lazy to do it.  Do you have days like that?  I sure hope this passes…

But in the meantime, I hope you like my Zentangle and I would like to wish all the moms a very happy Mother’s Day!

Zentangle….

Hello, Long time no post, huh… For the last week or so, I have been making prints of my drawings.  Not an easy task, but I think I did a fairly good job of it.  I sent the  color work to my Dad’s shop  and my SIL is making the color prints for me as well as my business cards, brochures and even some presentation stuff.  It’s so great to come from a family of printers…hee, hee and I am so grateful for their help..Because it would have cost me a fortune that I didn’t have.  In return, I promised  to show them how to Zentangle.  But I will also make them little Zen-Art packets that they can take home.  I hope they will be pleased.

Also, I just wanted to let you in on a great offer.  I subscribe to the Strathmore newsletter. It’s an awesome newsletter.  Annnyway, they are offering FOR FREE a visual journal workshop series and if you want to sign up (click here) .  They give you a supply list and everything.  Now, don’t plan on seeing any of my journal here, but I may surprise you:)  If I get really brave.

Zentangle…

This Zentangle reminds me of the Alien movie for some reason, I think it’s the tubes…It also has a Celtic vibe to it too.  Pretty Cool, huh?  You know I’m just going to have to draw a bigger one.

I have been doing pretty well with my creative resolutions.   I made some curtains for my bathroom.  Our windows are kinda small and I was able to buy one panel, cut it in half  to make a set of curtains.  I think this should count as refashioning too.

Also, I’m beading a necklace.  It has one focal bead and many strands of tube beads.  I’ll post my results later on.   As for the art?  I’m pressing on.  I have an old  building on my drawing board, but it’s a slow go.    Drawing landscapes and buildings are still so new to me that I get a little lost, but it’s very challenging so it keeps me interested:)

Well, I guess that’s about it.

November 26

I hope this post finds everyone safe and full of turkey!  This Zentangle is made with just a few patterns.  You can’t believe the self-control it took not to add just one more here or one more there.  I just love all those crazy little things.  I cut out a bunch of 3.5 x 3.5 paper to draw these on and I have no idea what to do with them all.  I think they would make some pretty cool coasters if I could figure out how to waterproof them. I would laminate them, but I don’t think that the lamination would keep the water out after a couple of uses.

I hope you have a creative day!
