Untitled-ref. from Wet Canvas

5 x 7 Graphite on Bristol Smooth

This is the completed piece that I started earlier in the week.  I really like how it turned out.  I’ve never been able to draw wood before and this is pretty exciting for me.  I never really gave much thought to masculine or feminine art.  I usually draw dogs and that’s seems kind of unisex.   But on this piece:  the stained wood, and the rusted lock and pull, the chipped paint all seems very masculine to me.    I like the look of rust and oily machine parts, a broken lawnmower in the weeds etc.  Wow, this is kinda strange because I’m a girly girl most of time and have been accused of being a priss pot on more than one occasion.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m not  afraid of getting dirty, but I’d rather not, heehee.

I hope you enjoy your creative day:)

This is a  simple little necklace that I made for AEDM. It definitely looks beachy doesn’t it?  It’s  a sea shell with hemp cord and two rock beads from a vintage necklace that belonged to my grandma.  Alana collected the shell on one of our trips to Emerald Isle.  I forgot which Carolina Emerald Isle is located…not only am I kinda of forgetful,  I’m also directionally challenged.  I always got 2’s on my report card on follows directions. yep, that was me…

David comes home today and I’m really excited to see him.  He’s been working in California since last Thursday and we are ready for him to be home.  The only downside is David brings home his own creative challenges. Dirty, greasy, stinky clothes! HEY! Can I post that as a challenge;)

November 10

This morning I decided to draw a Zentangle for AEDM (Art Every Day Month).  Being in this AEDM group has given me the opportunity to see some pretty diverse stuff by some pretty awesome artists.  I have to admit coming up with something to post everyday isn’t easy, but it’s a lot of fun seeing what everyone comes up with and I can’t wait to see more:)

When I went to my art/craft room I had such a cute little surprise waiting for me.  It’s a little present from my one and only masterpiece.

 Have a great creative Wednesday!

This is a colored pencil sketch on bristol smooth for the Art Every Day Month.  I think this little flower suits my mood right now.  It is such a beautiful day and  I’m feeling so much better now that  I can actually breathe through at least one of my nostrils. Yep, it’s a good day.

November 8…

This is my contribution for today’s AEDM and  is just a snippet of a piece that I’m playing around with.  I don’t know if I will complete this because it’s  just an exercise in an effort to expand my graphite art work.  It’s a lot of fun to try different things, but unfortunantly it isn’t colorful enough to be exciting to anyone except me.  On top of that, this scan is so horrible and grainy and my camera skills are just as bad.  I wish I knew the secret of taking good graphite artwork pictures.  If you have the “key to the mint” could you please make me a copy?  I know it’s possible, but I haven’t the foggiest idea how to do it.  In all I have played with every setting on my camera and scanner, I’ve used fixitive to cut down the shine,  I have set up a white photography station with lights coming from the left to the right.  I’ve backlit the artwork, I got close as possible to take the picture as well as far away, I’ve used natural daylight indoors, and outside and taken the pictures with the art at an angle, straight up and down and laying flat…So what the heck is left?  GRRR…. okay, I’m finished now:)

Today I added more detail and added to my rock collection.  I’m not too impressed and I think this is as far as I’m going.  I was drawing this in a sketch pad and I think the paper is just too rough.  I have tried with all my might to grow a love in sketch pads.  But I just can’t get over the texture of the paper. It’s a shame too, because I have lots of them in all kinds of sizes. …what a waste!  I think I may try to make my own sketch book with a smoother texture of paper…This is Art Every Day Month right? So anything is possible:)

It is a bit overwhelming thinking about tonal values and different elements in drawing a landscape, so I decided to break it down in small pieces: sky, grass, trees, rocks, water and possibly architecture.  Since I’m still under the weather, I thought I’d start with rocks because they are so easy, right?  Wrong!  Rocks are extremely difficult to render and this little tad bit is about 4 hours drawing and shading and is nowhere near finished.  I think my reference was a little ambitious for me to start with, so I don’t know if I’m going to finish this or draw something a little simpler tomorrow.

Today I decided to make one of my nephews a card.  He is in the Army and in basic training right now and I’m sure he’s getting a little homesick.

I’m still feeling pretty lousy, so I think this card is about all I have in me for today.  I’m hoping for a better day tomorrow.

November 2

I was very excited to start on the AEDM challenge when I went to bed last night.  Unfortunately, my body decided  it was the perfect time to wake up sick.  So, now I have a stuffy nose, sore throat and an ear and headache.  I’m hoping it maybe allergies of some kind.

This little Zentangle isn’t exactly what I had in mind for my first creative day, but it is creative.

If you would like to start making your own Zentangles, I will leave you with couple of links so you can create your own:

Zentangle.com – from Maria and Rick the creators of Zentangle .  They have newsletters with patterns, kits available for purchase and class registration.  This is their Blog.

Tanglepatterns.com – has patterns galore!
